Thomas Robinson, 2nd Baron Grantham PC (born November 30, 1738 in Vienna , † July 20, 1786 in Grantham House, Putney Heath , Surrey ) was a British nobleman and politician .

Life

Robinson was the son of the British Ambassador to Vienna Thomas Robinson, 1st Baron Grantham , and his wife Frances Worsley.

Robinson first attended Westminster School and then studied at Christ's College at the University of Cambridge , where he graduated in 1757. He was a member of the House of Commons for nine years since 1761 for the Borough of Christchurch in Dorset . On February 13, 1770 he was promoted to Deputy Chamberlain of the Household ( Vice-Chamberlain of the Household ) and sworn in on the 26th of the same month as a member of the Privy Council . On the death of his father in 1770 he inherited his title of nobility as Baron Grantham , rose thereby to the House of Lords and left the House of Commons. He was British Ambassador to Spain from 1771 to 1779 , President of the Board of Trade from 1780 to 1782 and from July 1782 to April 1783 British Foreign Minister under Prime Minister William Petty, 2nd Earl of Shelburne .

Marriage and offspring

In 1780 he married Lady Mary Jemima Gray Yorke (1757–1830), second daughter of Philip Yorke, 2nd Earl of Hardwicke and the Jemima Yorke, 2nd Marchioness Gray , with whom he had three sons:
