Henry Bathurst, 3rd Earl Bathurst KG PC ( May 22, 1762 - July 27, 1834 in London ) was a British nobleman and politician.
family
He was the eldest son of Henry Bathurst, 2nd Earl Bathurst . On April 1, 1789, he married Georgina (December 6, 1765 - January 20, 1841), the daughter of Lord George Henry Lennox and granddaughter of the 2nd Duke of Richmond . The couple had four sons and two daughters. His eldest son Henry George (born February 24, 1790, † May 25, 1866) inherited the title of 4th Earl Bathurst.
Politician
To 1779 he attended the Christ Church College of Oxford University . In 1783 he became a Member of the House of Commons for Cirencester in Gloucestershire , before he inherited his title on the death of his father on August 6, 1794 and took his place in the House of Lords . Thanks to his friendship with Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger , he became Lord of the Admiralty in 1783. From 1789 to 1791 he was Lord of the Treasury .
When Pitt became Prime Minister a second time in May 1804, Bathurst took over the post of Head of the Royal Mint (Master of the Mint) . He held this position until 1806 and again from 1807 to 1812. Among the prime ministers Lord William Bentinck, 3rd Duke of Portland and Spencer Perceval was he president of the Board of Trade ( Board of Trade ) . In 1809 he was Foreign Minister from October to December . He became Secretary of War and Colonial Affairs on June 11, 1812 , when the incumbent Minister, Robert Jenkinson, 2nd Earl of Liverpool , took office as Prime Minister. Bathurst held this position until April 30, 1827 and it was thanks to this office that various remote places were named after him. In 1817 he was accepted into the Order of the Garter.
In the reign of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington , he held the office of Lord President of the Council from January 28, 1828 to November 22, 1830 , an office that his father had held from 1779 to 1782. He supported Catholic emancipation and was an opponent of the parliamentary reform passed in 1832 .
