The Tiefenbach is a brook in the Esslingen district in central Baden-Württemberg , which, after a nearly 13-kilometer run, flows approximately to the northwest in the city of Nürtingen from the right into the Neckar , where it is usually called Saubach .

geography

course

The Tiefenbach rises at about 620  m above sea level. NHN at the northern fall of the bass violin , a northern spur of the Albtrauf , in Owener Gewann Allmend a few meters below the tree line. For a little more than its first kilometer, it flows north to northeast down the slope and passes the Owener Berghöfe, which are about 200 m to the left. After crossing under the L 1210 Beuren –Owen near the junction of the valley road K 1243 that subsequently accompanies him to Nürtingen, he turns at the Gewann Wiesenhalde at about 430  m above sea level. NHN on now long northwest run. Soon after this change of direction he enters a large forest area between the places Owen in the southeast, Frickenhausen in the west, Nürtingen in the northwest and Kirchheim unter Teck in the northeast, which he crosses mostly accompanied by wood in a meadow.

On this longest section, several Klingenbach streams run towards it one after the other , the largest one after the other are the preisbach and the Blumentobelbach from the left, the Seebach from the right, the Schabenbach from the left and the Heuscheuerbach from the right. As before, there is only little settlement on this section, namely the Sonnenhof on the right side of the Lauf in a headland of Beuren over the Tiefenbach, and the Tiefenbach teaching farm on the left at the end of the forest, plus a few buildings used for agriculture. The stream, which is 2 to 5 meters wide here, winds naturally through the floodplain, is deepened up to two meters and shows bank breaks. Its water is polluted after the inflow of the Blumentobelbach, which drains a landfill.

After the Riedbach (!) Which flows across from the teaching center and which already largely runs outside the forest, the Tiefenbach initially leaves the forest behind to the right and a little downhill to the left. Less than a kilometer and a half after the teaching center are the first, still scattered buildings in Nürtingen in the valley basin. The Rietbach (!) Flows through the closed built-up settlement area of Nürtingen as the last tributary from the east. Shortly before the Nürtingen train station, the brook swings to the west-north-west through the recently built-up area north of the old town of Nürtingen, passing under the Tübingen – Plochingen railway line and disappearing in a doldrums. At the Theodor-Eisenlohr-Sporthalle it finally flows at about 270  m above sea level. NHN from the right into the upper Neckar .

The Tiefenbach flows after a 12.9 km long run with an average bottom gradient of approx. 27 ‰ about 350 meters below its origin. The first quarter of the run accounts for over two thirds of the difference in altitude.

Catchment area

The Tiefenbach drains a 23.4 km² area which, in terms of natural space , lies primarily in the foothills of the central Swabian Alb except for a thin southern edge strip on the crest of the Bassgeige , which belongs to the Alb eaves of the Middle Kuppenalb . This larger part is divided into parts of the sub-areas Neuffen-Vorberge upstream of the Albtrauf up to the north-western edge of the large wooded area on the middle course and then and less broadly the Erms-Steinach-Albvorland , which extends into the built-up area of Nürtingen. This is followed by a portion of the sub-area Nürtinger-Esslinger Neckar valley of the adjoining natural area Filder up to the river bank towards the Neckar . The 735.6  m above sea level. NHN's highest point is on the southern border on a small crest on the bass violin.

Adjacent catchment areas are in turn:

  • from the mouth up on the northern and north-northeastern watershed that of the short Oberboihinger Marbach and then that of the larger Talbach , which flows into the same place ;
  • Beyond the rest of the right watershed in the north-east and east, up to the Bassgeige, smaller streams drain to the great Lenninger Lauter , which flows further down into the Neckar near Wendlingen than the two aforementioned ;
  • Behind the left watershed, the Beurener Bach flows to the Steinach in the south , which only flows into the Neckar shortly before the Tiefenbach itself in Nürtingen, the water course from the two runs so close to the Tiefenbach in the relevant area that it is only very short from the Scheide Streams fall. Because the catchment areas of the Lauter and Steinach rivers, which arise deeper in the Alb, meet south of the Bassgeige, that of the Tiefenbach, unlike most of the larger bodies of water arising on the Albtrauf, nowhere borders on the European main watershed to the Danube .

Places and municipalities

Places on the run with their affiliations. Only the names of the lowest nesting level denote neighboring settlements:

In the catchment area, apart from the places on the river itself, only the southern edge of the Nürtingen district of Reudern is located . The municipality of Frickenhausen in the same district also holds a share of the area in the form of a wooded narrow wedge along the Schabenbach, which ends opposite the Sonnenhof just before the left bank of the Tiefenbach itself.

geology

In the catchment area of the Tiefenbach there are Mesozoic layers from the lower mass limestone of the Weißjuras on the Albtrauf down to the marl marl ( Trossingen formation ) of the Mittlelkeuper in downtown Nürtingen. The stream begins its course in the Weißjura rubble and floating earth on the slope of the Bassgeige, but soon changes to the Braunjura , whose frond sandstone briefly passes through in the area of its upper course change of direction, and then the large forest area with its hills in the Achdorf formation and the To cross Opalinus Clay , where most of its meadow floodplain lies on geologically much younger alluvial clay. At the end of its forest stretch, the Black Jurassic Zone begins . The Keuper is limited to the area of the Nürtingen city center; the old town is noticeably built on a small hill between Tiefenbach and Steinach with marl slopes and a Black Jurassic deck chute.

Shortly before the edge of the built-up city, a fault line crosses the valley from south-west to north-east, the high block of which appears to be downstream.

The Tiefenbach flows in the area of the Swabian volcano , which was active in the Miocene , and some of the chimneys that were knocked through the cover rock or "volcanic embryos" that were not knocked through are still recognizable today as hardships by their morphology or can be localized based on geomagnetic anomalies in the subsurface. The Beurener Fels at the western tip of the Bassgeige above Beuren, for example, is striking , on the lower slope of which basalt was previously mined, the nearby small peaks Spitzberg and Engelberg north of Beuren, the small round hill Kräuterbühl am Wald immediately to the right of the Aue a little before the teaching farm Tiefenbach. In contrast, the Bol , which carries a water reservoir, on the southern edge of Reudern, and another volcanic embryo close to it are hardly noticeable morphologically. Overall, the volcanically influenced areas only take up a tiny part of the catchment area.

Nature and protected areas

Almost the entire upper catchment area of the Tiefenbach down to the municipality boundary of Frickenhausen on the left side and the city limits of Nürtingen on the right side of the course near the Sonnenhof belongs to different landscape protection areas , the boundaries of which often follow the municipality boundaries. Downwards, almost all of the open land continues to lie, i.e. first the meadow meadows between the wooded areas to the left and right and then at the end of this at the Tiefenbach teaching farm again in the full width of the catchment area up to the edge of the development of Nürtingen and Reudern in the nature reserve areas around Nürtingen and repentance .

The basalt tufa quarry on the Beurener Fels rock and three of the five volcanic embryos in the catchment area are natural monuments, as are some river edges and wetlands and a 0.7 km long avenue of lime trees next to the valley road down from the Tiefenbach teaching farm. The Tiefenbach flows into the built-up area of Nürtingen in a corner of the Hochwiesen water protection area , which, however, is mostly on the other side of the Neckar.
