Tiengen ( alem. Dienge  [ ˈd̥ɪəŋə ] ) is a district with its own local administration of Freiburg im Breisgau . The village is about ten kilometers west of the city on the Tuniberg between the Freiburg towns of Opfingen and Munzingen . On January 1, 1973, it became part of the city of Freiburg. At the end of 2013, a little more than 3,200 registered residents lived there. The district covers 838 hectares, 746 of which are undeveloped. The A 5 / E 35 motorway with junction 63 Freiburg-Süd runs through the eastern district . The B 31 , which previously ran through the town, was downgraded to a district road in Tiengen and Munzingen because of the parallel course there to the motorway .

The old wine press

At the motorway junction, one kilometer east of the village, there is the Reutemattensee, a fen that has replaced the swimming lake since the artificial inlet was closed, and the Arlesheimer See lake to the east of the motorway in the moss forest , inaccessible in a nature reserve. Both lakes are former quarry ponds . The Schlatthöfe are located on the eastern edge of the district near the Freiburg thermal baths.

Tiengen has large vineyards on the Tuniberg , but viticulture has lost a lot of its relative importance in recent years. Due to the large increase in population since 1970, the place has developed into a commuter community .

history

Tiengen was first mentioned in a document in 888 in a document from the St. Gallen monastery , which had extensive possessions here. In 1008 the place is mentioned in a deed of donation, the so-called deed of wilderness from King Heinrich II to the diocese of Basel , together with the names of the Freiburg districts of Herdern , Wiehre and Zähringen as well as other places in the Breisgau . The local coat of arms shows these two ownership structures: the bear stands for St. Gallen and the crosier for Basel.

Tiengen, Protestant parish church

After the change of several local lords, Tiengen belonged to the Badenweiler rulership in the 15th century and with this came to the Margrave Christoph von Baden in 1499 . As part of the Margraviate of Baden , the place became Protestant during the Reformation and belonged to the Markgräflerland . This affiliation is also noticeable in the local Alemannic dialect , which, like Opfingen, which also became Protestant during the Reformation, is part of High Alemannic , while Munzingen, which remained Catholic during the Reformation, speaks a Lower Alemannic dialect .

The Protestant church is called Symphoriankirche, named after Saint Symphorianus . The church tower is 36 meters high; its top is on the same level as Freiburg's Münsterplatz .

buildings

Terrace houses

The terrace houses built in 1973 are striking in the townscape. The Tuniberghaus is an event location on the eastern edge of the town. In the center of the village is the “Zum Anker” inn, built in 1650 as a post office. Outside the village in the Mooswald are the Schlatthöfe, built in the 13th century, known today for the winery with ostrich tavern .
