Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan (born February 6, 1950 in St. Louis , Missouri , USA ) is Archbishop of New York .

Life

Timothy Dolan was born the eldest of five children to a middle class family and, like most of the Archbishops of New York, is of Irish descent . From 1964 to 1968 he attended the St. Louis Preparatory Seminary South in Shrewsbury before he followed in the same city at the seminary Cardinal Glennon College Catholic theology and philosophy studied. From 1972 he continued his studies in Rome , where he became an alumnus of the Pontifical North America College and obtained a licentiate in theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas .

On 19 June 1976 he received by Bishop Edward Thomas O'Meara the priesthood and then worked until 1979 as a chaplain in the Immacolata Parish in Richmond Heights ; During this time he was also confessor of a Carmelite convent .

From 1979 to 1983 he was a build-up studies in church history exempted, he at the Catholic University of America with the promotion of Dr. theol. completed. He then returned to Missouri as a chaplain and was chaplain in the Curé of Ars Parish in Shrewsbury from 1983 to 1985 and in the Little Flower Parish in Richmond Heights from 1985 to 1987 .

In 2009 he was the Cardinal Grand Master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem , John Patrick Foley , the Grand Prior of the Lieutenancy USA Eastern of the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem appointed, based in New York.

From 2010 to 2013 he was chairman of the United States Bishops' Conference .

In the solemn consistory of February 18, 2012, Benedict XVI took him. as a cardinal priest with the titular church Nostra Signora di Guadalupe a Monte Mario in the College of Cardinals .
