meaning
The area of today's Tucheng was settled by Chinese immigrants from the end of the 18th century. Originally agricultural and characterized by traditional handicrafts, Tucheng changed into an industrial area around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, as neighboring Taipei rose to become a major city. In the second half of the 20th century, encouraged by government subsidies, companies from the cutting-edge technology sector began to settle here .
