UCI world ranking road cycling (men)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The UCI world ranking list for road cycling for men was introduced in 1984 by the world cycling association Union Cycliste Internationale for road cycling and - after being discontinued at the end of 2004 - re-established in 2016 under the name UCI World Ranking . It includes the results of the most important competitions of the previous 52 weeks.

history

Initially the world ranking was called FICP-Vélo , from 1989 FICP world ranking . After the dissolution and incorporation of the World Association of Amateur Cycling (FIAC) and the World Association of Professional Cycling (FICP) into the World Cycling Association UCI in 1992, a separate world ranking list for riders, teams and nations was established from 1993. From 1999 all three categories and UCI cycling teams (GS / I, GS / II and GS / III) each received their own world rankings, so that there were five team rankings afterwards.

After the 2004 season, the men's world rankings as well as the cycling world cup were abolished in favor of the rankings of the UCI ProTour ( 2009 and 2010 : UCI World Calendar, from 2011: UCI WorldTour ) and the UCI Continental Circuits .

For the 2015 season, the UCI initially reintroduced the rankings for drivers and nations. These ratings should replace the corresponding UCI WorldTour ratings. In addition, the team rating of the World Tour and the ratings of the Continental Circuits should pass. After protests by the teams, this rule change was suspended for 2015. The world rankings were reintroduced at the beginning of the 2016 season, the rankings for the WorldTour and the Continental Circuits will also remain.

For the nation ranking of the elite and U23, the points scored by the eight best drivers in a country are added up. A separate nation ranking is calculated from the results of the U23 drivers in a country.

For the newly introduced team classification , the points achieved by the eight best drivers of a UCI team ( UCI WorldTeam , UCI ProTeam or UCI Continental Team ) are added up. A 3-year ranking is also drawn up for all UCI teams.
