Ulrich August Friedrich Hans von Klein (born October 8, 1822 in Ludwigslust ; † April 28, 1893 there ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Ulrich was a son of the Mecklenburg-Schwerin Major of the Grenadier Guard Karl von Klein (1791-1841) and his wife Luise Eleonore Franziska, born von Oertzen (1797-1857).

Military career

On September 15, 1839, Klein joined the light infantry battalion of the Mecklenburg contingent as an avantageur . At the beginning of July 1841 he was promoted to second lieutenant , was assigned to the artillery in April 1844 and rose to prime lieutenant until May 1849 . As such, Klein took part in the fighting at Siedelsbrunn , Großsachsen and Gernsbach in the same year when the Baden Revolution was put down .

From January to June 1850, Klein was assigned to the rifle inspection commission in Suhl , and from November 1852 to December 1854 as stable master in the Schwerin Marstall . In mid-May 1857 he returned to service as a company commander with the promotion to captain . In the run-up to the German War , he rose to Major and Commander of the Jäger Battalion on March 27, 1866. He led his association near Bayreuth and Seybothenreuth and received, in addition to the Order of the Red Eagle, fourth class with swords, the Military Merit Cross .

By the military convention , Klein was accepted into the Association of the Prussian Army on October 10, 1868 as Major and Commander of Jäger Battalion No. 14 . In mid-June 1869 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and at the end of March 1870 he was transferred to Wroclaw as commander of the fusilier battalion in the 2nd Silesian Grenadier Regiment No. 11 . At the beginning of the war against France he was wounded in the head in the Battle of Vionville and after the battles at Gravelotte and Noisseville , Klein took over the regimental leadership for the fallen commander Karl von Schöning on September 9, 1870. As a result, he took part in the fighting at Artenay and before Metz and was wounded twice at Orleans .

Awarded both classes of the Iron Cross , Klein was promoted to colonel after the peace treaty on August 18, 1871 and was also appointed regimental commander. In this capacity he received the Order of the Red Eagle III in January 1875 on the occasion of the festival of the Order. Class with swords on rings. The following year he took his leave on February 12, 1876, with a pension and the right to wear his regimental uniform. After his departure, Kaiser Wilhelm I gave him the character of major general on August 16, 1876 . He died unmarried on April 28, 1893 in Ludwigslust.
