Alone with Uncle Buck (Original title: Uncle Buck ) is an American comedy film from 1989 . In Germany, however, it was not released until April 1991. The main roles are played by John Candy and Macaulay Culkin , a supporting role is cast by the actress Laurie Metcalf , well-known from the series Roseanne .
action
Cindy and Bob Russell have to travel at short notice because Cindy's father is ill. They cannot take their three children Tia, Miles and Maizy with them. After a short-term and unsuccessful search for a nanny, all they have left is Bob's unpopular and almost forgotten brother - Uncle Buck.
With great effort they call him for help. Buck, who would like to help his family, agrees, but without bringing his girlfriend Chanice Kobolowski with him. With a guilty conscience, Cindy and Bob go to Cindy's father and leave the childless Buck alone with their children. Due to his huge appearance, he initially frightens the two smaller children Miles and Maizy - for Teeny Tia he offers new areas of attack.
Buck tries everything to do justice to the role of the adult in the house. From the breakfast he prepares from the garbage to the moral support Tias does not want. As a result, he tries in vain to dissuade Tia from seeing her senses and from her boyfriend, who wants sex from her instead of love . The film culminates in a party where Tia's boyfriend tries to convince her to have sex. Buck smuggles among the partygoers and tries to help Tia.
Meanwhile, the single neighbor Marcie tries to bewitch Buck, which ends in a dance scene and is unexpectedly observed by his girlfriend Chanice. She travels to help Buck solve the "teenage problem" and finds him dancing with the rival.
The film closes with a happy ending . Buck is re-accepted as a full member of the family because the family home will be in good condition when the parents return.
Uncle Buck alone owns two storylines . One describes Buck's life, which he and his girlfriend master more badly than right, the other storyline describes the experiences of the teenager Tia.
background
The film was shot mainly in the US state of Illinois . It is noteworthy that almost all of the film sets, including the two-story Russell House, were set up in a high school.
Danny DeVito was slated for the role of Buck .

TV Shows
In 1990, Uncle Buck was the first television series based on the film. Kevin Meaney played the role of Buck. Another series of the same name was created in 2016, which is a kind of spin-off. Here took Mike Epps the supporting role.
criticism
“A comedy that is somewhat undecided between family and teenage films. Played brilliantly, but with many clichés and an overly prudish moral pedagogy. "
