She's having a Baby is an American comedy from 1988 directed by John Hughes . Alternative title is child's play to great luck .
action
In a satirical way, the film illustrates common stereotypes , clichés and fears of young couples and newlyweds that exist in popular culture . These are illustrated using the example of Kristy and Jake Briggs :
The couple in love from Chicago get married at the beginning of the film, which is sometimes seen as premature by those around them, as both are relatively young. The first discrepancies soon appear, as both Jake and Kristy notice certain unpleasant peculiarities in each other.
Jake is the focus of the film in two ways: on the one hand, because he expresses his thoughts in the form of voiceovers and, on the other hand, through rather bizarre daydream visions that express his fears and fears regarding married life.
After the bumpy start of the marriage, the couple first moves to New Mexico , where Jake tries to get his college degree, but fails. Both of them return to their hometown for some time, where they slowly build up a peaceful family life: Kristy gets a job in a research laboratory, Jake gets (through clever whispering) a job in an advertising agency and finally they move into a suburban apartment building. Only one thing is still missing for family happiness: a baby.
The whole thing turns out to be difficult, however: First, Jake has to make friends with the idea of a baby, then Kristy's attempt to stop the pill fails , and finally both plan the conception down to the last detail , which is ultimately crowned with success. But there is still a long way to go, especially for Jake. His daydreams about the baby and the stuffy suburban family life take him more and more. But in the end he realizes that his egocentricity was responsible for the past and upcoming problems and he finally comes to terms with the (soon to be) father role.
In the end, everything will be fine and after a rather chaotic journey to the delivery, Jake and Kristy can hug their child, making the family happy. In the meantime, those around you and various other personalities are already thinking about the baby's name ...
criticism
"A quiet, unspectacular satirical fairy tale with a deeper meaning that satirizes hastily crafted life plans and ideas of happiness in the mixing of several levels of reality."
