history
The place on which the new settlement was founded the year before is referred to on a map in 1724 as the “Vecheld'sche Lage”. The land surveyor translated this name from "Vech'lah" according to the vernacular. The name for Vechelde was spoken similarly as early as 1145. because it appears in a document as "Vechtla". The final syllable “la” or “Iah” is derived from “loh” and, in the most ancient times, had the meaning for “forest”.
Vechelade was founded in 1723 by Duchess Elisabeth Sophie Marie (1683–1767) on an oak-lined island in the Auebruch as a settlement for day laborers from the princely estate of Vechelde. The Duchess placed the residents who had settled here under her special protection and granted them freedom. 1724 called “Houses on the Vecheldschen Lage”, 1755 Vechelage, later Vechelade. The place originally consisted of two streets that met at an angle. Immigration created a large triangle, the interior of which was occupied by gardens (later also residential buildings). The village shows two-storey workers' houses and some small central German stretch and hook yards. Vechelade has always belonged to the core area of the state of Braunschweig.
Up until the First World War, there was a large apartment building in Vechelade, popularly known as "barracks". This apartment building accommodated foreign workers for the jute spinning mill in Vechelde. The number of tenants is said to have even approached the population of Fürstenau .
Incorporations
When the district of Braunschweig was divided up during the Lower Saxony regional and administrative reform in 1974 , Vechelade came to the district of Peine . On March 1, 1974, the village also lost its independence and is now part of the municipality of Vechelde.

coat of arms
The coat of arms shows on a blue shield a golden rafter under which there is a golden house.
Before Vechelade was founded by the Duchess Elisabeth Sophie Marie in 1723, there was only a house at this place, which was used for hunting and forestry purposes. The first settlement consisted of two streets forming an angle. The new settlers were exempted from the customary taxes by the Duchess and were under her personal protection. The rafter refers both to this arrangement of the streets and to the protective function performed by the Duchess. The house is reminiscent of the town's first building and at the same time symbolizes its village character. The colors blue and gold make it clear that it belongs to the former district of Braunschweig.
The coat of arms was adopted by the local council on November 6, 1990, the design comes from Arnold Rabbow.
