history

Klein Gleidingen was first mentioned by name in a list of goods belonging to the Fulda monastery from the 9th century. It mentions the donation of a certain Odiltag and his wife Wentelsuvint to the Fulda monastery around the year 780. There 20 goods of the Liergau are mentioned, including Gledingen , probably Klein Gleidingen.

Around 1440 Klein Gleidingen was combined with another ten villages in the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel to form the administrative and judicial district " Amt Eich " or "Zur Eiche". The office covered the area west of the city of Braunschweig, from the Braunschweiger Landwehr to about the river Aue . In 1501, Duke Heinrich I , called the Elder , pledged the villages of the office to the city of Braunschweig, under whose administration they remained until 1671, when the era of the independent city of Braunschweig was ended by the reconquest of the princes of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel.

In 1802 Klein Gleidingen had 110 inhabitants in 13 campfire sites. With the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel, the place was incorporated into the Kingdom of Westphalia created by Napoleon in 1807 . After its dissolution in 1813, the place belonged to the Duchy of Braunschweig until 1918 .

Klein Gleidden's assignment to the Braunschweig district ended on March 1, 1974 as part of the regional reform of Lower Saxony . Since then the place has belonged to the municipality of Vechelde.

Village image and local development

Klein Gleidingen was an agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century. The old village image is mainly determined by central German three-sided farms . In terms of the structure of employment, agriculture is only of minor importance today. Many of the village's residents pursue their purchases mainly in the regional center of Braunschweig or in the nearby industrial area in the Salzgitter area .

Originally the place was a street village . In the course of its development history, the place grew into today's cluster village . In the past few decades, the place has expanded to the north and west with private homes and settlement houses and thus connects to the neighboring town of Denstorf , without any recognizable local boundaries.

The Heinrichshöhe development area has been under construction on the south-eastern edge of the village since 2007 . The shape of a round village - the plots are grouped around a central village square - creates a park-like residential landscape.

Landscape protection areas

The Gleidinger Holz has been a landscape protection area since 1974 , together with the adjacent Timmerlaher Busch.

coat of arms

The coat of arms shows on a blue shield in the upper left corner the colors of the coat of arms of the Fulda monastery (black cross on a silver background), to whose possession the village belonged in the years 780 to 820. In the center of the coat of arms is the golden head of an ibex. This comes from the coat of arms of the von Wallmoden family who, along with other aristocratic families, owned a noble farm as a Graflich Schaumburg fief. The blue-gold color is reminiscent of belonging to the former district of Braunschweig.

The coat of arms was adopted by the local council on September 9, 1981, the design was made by Arnold Rabbow.
