The Vehnemoor-West is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Bösel and the town of Friesoythe in the district of Cloppenburg . The nature reserve with the registration NSG WE 207 is around 300  hectares . It has been a nature reserve since August 17, 1991. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Cloppenburg.

The nature reserve is roughly between Edewecht and Friesoythe. It places a remnant of the formerly extensive Vehnemoorkomplex under protection. Parts of the nature reserve are occupied by birch bog forest . In addition, surfaces are moor grass , heather and Erica to find. In the north, a largely open, former peat extraction area joins to the east , which has been rewetted . Here the moor can slowly regenerate.

In the south of the protected area in particular, there are areas that have been cultivated as grassland , sometimes also as arable land . The areas are partially divided by hedges . Moor forest parcels can be found in several places. These areas are in particular the meadow bird protection and to protect other species and communities of cultivated bog .

The area is drained, especially in the south, by ditches leading to the Lahe and the Lahe-Ableiter . In the north and north-west it borders on the town of Edewechterdamm , otherwise it is mainly surrounded by agricultural land . The “ Ahrensdorfer Moor ” nature reserve is around 1.5 km to the northwest, the “ Vehnemoor ” nature reserve is around 2 km east, and the Lahe , which is also a nature reserve, runs slightly to the south-west .

Between the northern area of the nature reserve and the village of Vehnemoor to the east, around 80 hectares of grassland are used by the Lower Saxony Landgesellschaft as a compensation pool. The areas are mainly used to protect meadow birds.
