The Ohe is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipalities of Lorup in the combined municipality of Werlte and Breddenberg , Esterwegen and Hilkenbrook in the combined municipality of Nordhümmling in the district of Emsland and in the town of Friesoythe in the district of Cloppenburg .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG WE 300 is 37.59 hectares . The 22.68 hectare FFH area of the same name is completely part of the nature reserve. The area has been under nature protection since April 26, 2018. The responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the districts of Emsland and Cloppenburg.
The nature reserve is located west of Friesoythe in something between Neuscharrel and Lorup. It protects the middle and lower reaches of the Ohe with their bank margins over a length of around 14 km . A grassland area is included in the nature reserve southeast of Esterwegen .
The Ohe is developed on the entire route in the protected area, but meanders moderately through the lowland . Large areas of emersed and submerged vegetation can be found in the watercourse . The Ohe is the only known habitat of the mud whip in the natural area.
The Ohe is almost completely surrounded by agricultural land . It is only occasionally accompanied by individual trees or small groups of trees. Occasionally, small forests border the protected area.
