The Aschendorfer Obermoor / Wilde Moor is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony city of Papenburg and the communities of Surwold in the combined community of Nordhümmling and Neulehe in the combined community of Dörpen in the district of Emsland .
The nature reserve with the registration NSG WE 261 is 1,056 hectares in size. The FFH area "Krummes Meer, Aschendorfer Obermoor" forms a good two thirds of the area .
The nature reserve is located south of Papenburg. It places a raised bog area under protection, which is partially drained and peated . The moor is regenerated by rewetting . Residual moor areas have been preserved in the core area of the protected area. The rewetting of the moor area was decided in 1997 as a compensatory measure for the construction of the Papenburg test site , which was built between 1995 and 1998 and is located a little northeast of today's nature reserve.
The former 90 hectare nature reserve "Krummes Meer" is part of the nature reserve "Aschendorfer Obermoor / Wildes Moor". The Krumme Meer is located in the north of the nature reserve in the area of the city of Papenburg. It is characterized by a partly silted-up bog with the surrounding bog areas. Here are u. a. To find vibrating lawns and bog heath .
There are agricultural areas in the southeast of the nature reserve . The area bordering the moorland is to be developed into a hydrological buffer zone after the current lease agreements expire at the end of 2013 by temporarily damming the ditch between the moorland and the agricultural land.
A moor nature trail runs through part of the nature reserve , which is a circular route on former farm roads and dams. Information about the moor and the landscape is provided on display boards. Part of the moor nature trail is also a small viewing platform that allows a panoramic view.
The area is drained through various ditches to form side channels of the coastal channel .
The area has been a nature reserve since December 13, 2007. The former “Krummes Meer” nature reserve, designated as of August 6, 1983, with the NSG WE 141 label, has been incorporated into the nature reserve. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Emsland.
