The Speller Dose is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Spelle in the combined municipality of Spelle in the Emsland district .
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG WE 146 is 56 hectares in size. It has been under nature protection since November 26, 1983. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Emsland.
The nature reserve is located northeast of Spelle and places the rest of a raised bog area under protection, the development of which probably began in two sand hollows in the Atlantic .
The moor has been changed by drainage and manual peat digging . Large parts of the moor, which is to be renatured by rewetting , is overgrown with birch trees. In addition, there are also typical moorland plants such as cotton grass and peat moss and Bult-Schlenken complexes . In some cases, attempts are being made to push back the birch trees with decussing measures in order to support the regeneration of the moor.
An approximately 100-meter-long educational moor trail in the form of a wooden walkway with a six-meter-high observation tower leads into the nature reserve .
The area is drained via ditches leading to the Giegel Aa and the Großer Aa leading to the Ems .
