The dry sand lawn on the Biener Busch is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony city of Lingen and in the municipality of Geeste in the Emsland district .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG WE 197 is 24 hectares . Of this, 22 hectares are allocated to the city of Lingen and two hectares to the district of Emsland. The nature reserve is completely part of the FFH area "Ems".
The nature reserve is located northwest of Lingen between the Linger district of Holthausen and Dalum . It borders the Ems in the west and the “ Biener Busch ” nature reserve in the southeast . It essentially consists of inland dunes with dry sandy and poor grassland . There are individual ponds and remains of a birch-oak forest in the nature reserve .
Parts of the area were used for arable farming at the time they were placed under protection. These are to be transferred back to poor grassland. In order to maintain the open character of the area, it is grazed extensively.
The area has been a nature reserve since November 25, 1989. Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the city of Lingen and the district of Emsland.
