The biotope at the Geeste reservoir is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Geeste in the Emsland district .
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG WE 182 is 50 hectares in size. The area has been a nature reserve since November 7, 1987. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Emsland.
The nature reserve is located north of the Geeste reservoir between Lingen and Meppen . In the east it borders on the B 70 , in the north on the state road 67. In the south, the nature reserve borders in parts on the dam of the Geeste reservoir.
The "biotope at the Geeste reservoir" was created in the 1980s as a compensatory measure for the construction of the Geeste reservoir. In the east there are fish ponds, the use of which has been given up, to which a swamp zone is connected. To the west of it a bay-rich body of water with islands, steep banks and shallow water zones was created, which is surrounded by a ring moat. On the shores of the lake, wet meadows , alder forests and reed beds as well as sand and gravel areas have been created.
In the north-west of the nature reserve there is a lookout point from which the nature reserve can be viewed.
