The Geestmoor is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Geeste in the Emsland district .
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG WE 269 is around 260 hectares . In the south, the “ Dalum-Wietmarscher Moor ” nature reserve is just a few hundred meters away . The area has been a nature reserve since June 14, 2006. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Emsland.
The nature reserve is located north-west of Lingen in the Bourtanger Moor-Bargerveen International Nature Park . It is part of the Bourtanger Moor . The nature reserve, which is roughly between the junction "Geeste" and "Twist" of the A 31 , is cut through by the motorway in the south and bounded by it in the north to the west.
The area is a raised bog area under protection. The easternmost section of the highway and parts of the north and south of the western highway area were industrially abgetorft . They are to be renatured by rewetting . In the central area of the section of the nature reserve west of the motorway there are still areas with a white peat layer that have a high potential for regeneration.
In reserve in addition to the natural bog surfaces and the Wiedervernässungsflächen wet heaths , birch bog forest and bog grassland to find.
The area is drained via various ditches leading to the Ems .
In the southwest of the nature reserve there is a viewing platform from which the moor can be viewed. The Emsland Moor Museum near Geeste- Groß Hesepe is located in the north near the nature reserve.
