The Lahe is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony town of Friesoythe and the municipality of Bösel in the district of Cloppenburg .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG WE 288 is around 39  hectares in size. The approximately 34 hectare FFH area of ​​the same name is completely part of the nature reserve. The area has been under nature protection since April 19, 2018. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Cloppenburg.

The nature reserve is located north and east of Friesoythe and extends along the course of the Lahe from the road bridge of the state road 835 between Garrel and Bösel to the confluence of the Lahe into the Soeste and closes the approximately 450 meter long section of the Soeste from the confluence of the Lahe to to the culvert under the coastal channel .

The nature reserve puts the mostly straightened watercourse with the embankments and adjacent waterfront strips under protection.

The Lahe flows through an agricultural lowland area. It has a predominantly narrow strip of water at the edge of the river with perennial vegetation and woody trees that accompany the stream. Occasionally, small forest islands border the stream. The Lahe is the habitat of the river lamprey .

In the medium term, the restoration of a diverse flowing, dynamic body of water with unspoilt banks and alluvial forest and wooded borders is planned in the nature reserve area . Furthermore, the improvement of the passability of the Lahe, which is interrupted by weirs and bed sills , is planned.
