The upper reaches of the Marka / Mittelradde is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipalities of Lindern (Oldenburg) and Molbergen in the district of Cloppenburg .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG WE 298 is around 5  hectares in size. In the south-west it borders on the nature reserve “ Bockholter Dose ”, in the north-east on the nature reserve “ Markatal bei Bischofsbrück ”. To the northwest it also borders the the Emsland district lies the conservation area "Mittelradde - Marka - Südradde". The nature reserve is part of the FFH area “Markatal with Bockholter Dose” and the EU bird protection area “ Niederungen der Süd- and Mittelradde and the Marka ”. The area has been under nature protection since January 1, 2019. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Cloppenburg.

The nature reserve is located west of Cloppenburg between the villages of Lindern (Oldenburg), Werlte and Vrees in an agricultural area on the edge of the Hümmling Nature Park. It stretches along the Mittelradde and the Marka from the southwestern border of the “Bockholter Dose” nature reserve to the crossing of the Marka through the 836 state road between Vrees and Peheim . It places the watercourse with its embankments and the adjacent waterfront strips in the area of ​​the district of Cloppenburg under protection. Marka and Mittelradde are completely straightened in the nature reserve, but have unobstructed banks, lively flowing water with flooding aquatic vegetation and a near-natural river bed with gravelly areas and fine sediment banks as spawning areas and larval habitats. The streams are mostly unshadowed, only in the nature reserve "Bockholter Dose" there is partially moor forests . The brooks are the habitat of river and brook lamprey .

The nature reserve is in conjunction with the nature reserve "Bockholter Dose" and adjacent grassland areas habitat of different species of birds as breeding or migratory bird species including lapwing , black-tailed godwit , curlew , snipe , quail , Skylark , Stonechat , White Star Blaukehlchen , Meadow Pipit , Redstart , Red-backed Shrike , Montagu's Harrier , Marsh Harrier and Short-eared Owl .
