Vero Beach South is a census-designated place (CDP) in Indian River County in the US state of Florida with 23,092 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Vero Beach South bordered to the north directly to Vero Beach and is located about 150 km southeast of Orlando . To the east of Vero Beach South runs the Indian River , part of the Intracoastal Waterway on the east coast of Florida.
The CDP is crossed by US Highway 1 , Florida State Roads 60 and 656 and the Florida East Coast Railway .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the 23,092 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 11,166 households. The population density was 861.6 inh / km². 88.9% of the population identified themselves as white , 5.3% as African-American , 0.4% as Native American and 1.6% as Asian Americans . 2.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.7% to several ethnic groups. 9.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 26.6% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 35.4% of all households. 64.1% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.30 people and the average family size was 2.82 people.
22.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 19.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 28.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 46 years. 48.0% of the population were male and 52.0% were female.
The median annual income was $ 41,948, with 15.4% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 93.29% of the population, 4.22% spoke Spanish and 2.49% had another mother tongue.
