South Beach is a census-designated place (CDP) in Indian River County in the US state of Florida with 3501 inhabitants (as of 2010).

South Beach borders directly on Vero Beach in the north and is about 160 km southeast of Orlando . The CDP lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River , which forms part of the Intracoastal Waterway .

South Beach is traversed by Florida State Road A1A .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 3501 inhabitants were distributed over 2227 households. The population density was 500.1 inh / km². 98.4% of the population identified themselves as whites , 0.1% as African American , 0.1% as Indians and 0.8% as Asian Americans . 0.1% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.4% to several ethnic groups. 2.3% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 63.2% of all households lived in 14.4% of all households with persons aged 65 or over. 74.0% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.09 people and the average family size was 2.42 people.

13.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 4.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 24.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 57.6% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 64 years. 46.9% of the population were male and 53.1% were female.

The median annual income was $ 111,065, with 4.6% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 98.78% of the population and 1.22% spoke Spanish .
