Florida Ridge is a census-designated place (CDP) in Indian River County in the US state of Florida with 18,164 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Florida Ridge is about 3 miles south of Vero Beach and about 160 km southeast of Orlando . South of the CDP is the border with St. Lucie County . In the east of Florida Ridge runs the Indian River , part of the Intracoastal Waterway on the east coast of Florida.

The CDP is crossed by US Highway 1 and the Florida East Coast Railway .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 18,164 inhabitants were distributed over 9,763 households. The population density was 648.7 inh / km². 77.8% of the population identified themselves as whites , 15.6% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.2% as Asian Americans . 2.7% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.2% to several ethnic groups. 10.6% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 29.5% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 36.6% of all households. 65.9% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.43 people and the average family size was 2.94 people.

24.9% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 25.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 27.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 42 years. 48.6% of the population were male and 51.4% were female.

The median annual income was $ 41,051, with 16.4% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 93.22% of the population, 4.98% spoke Spanish and 1.80% had another mother tongue.
