Viktor Ujčík (born May 24, 1972 in Jihlava , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player who was active for many years for HC Vítkovice Steel , HC Slavia Prague and HC Železárny Třinec in the Czech extra league. His sister is married to Tomas Kucharčík , who is also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Viktor Ujčík comes from the offspring of HC Dukla Jihlava and made his debut for this in the 1990/91 season in the top division of the ČSSR, the 1st division . After the military ended sponsoring the former army club, Dukla had both economic and sporting problems. Therefore, Ujčík decided to leave the club. He moved to HC Slavia Prague in 1995 and was the top scorer in the Extraliga with his new team with 45 goals in 46 games in the 1995/96 season . Because of the performances shown, he was nominated for the first time in 1996 for an A World Championship , in which he scored five points scorer in eight games .
In the following season his performance stagnated somewhat, so that he decided in the middle of the 1997/98 season to move to HC Železárny Třinec . In the 1998 playoffs he scored 18 points in 13 games and reached the final with his team. There Třinec lost 3-0 against HC Petra Vsetín . In the following two years Ujčík played for Třinec before returning to Slavia in the middle of the 2000/01 season. After this return he was able to build on his old playing strength and achieved 18 scorer points in the remaining 19 extra league games. In the playoffs of the same season Slavia advanced to the semi-finals and Ujčík he scored eight goals and eight assists in 11 games. During the 2001 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by the Montréal Canadiens in the ninth round in 266th place, but never played in North America.
After 13 games in the 2002/03 season , Ujčík was given to HC Keramika Plzeň in exchange for Radek Duda and Ales Krátoška . While Slavia became Czech champions at the end of the same season , Ujčík changed clubs again and joined city rivals HC Sparta Prague . With Sparta he reached the playoff semifinals in the following season , but could not build on his old performance. So he decided to move to another European country and signed a contract with Kärpät Oulu . With the Wieseln from Oulu he became Finnish champion in 2005 and 2007 before returning to the Czech Republic. Between 2007 and 2013 HC Vítkovice Steel went on the ice and was twice runner-up with this club.
In June 2013 he went back to his home club Jihlava, which played in the second-rate 1st division. In January 2014, Ujčík retired due to an injury.
In November 2014, Ujčík became assistant coach for the men's and U20 junior teams in Jihlava and worked in this position until the end of the 2016/17 season. He then worked as an assistant coach for BK Mladá Boleslav from the extra league for a year .
International
Viktor Ujčík played his first international matches at the U20 World Youth Championship . From 1996 he was part of the regular team of the Czech national team and became world champion with them in 1996 , 1999 and 2001 . He also won the bronze medal at the 1997 World Cup . He scored a total of 56 goals in 162 international matches for the Czech Republic and Czechoslovakia.
