Vincent (official name: The Vincent HRD Company Ltd./ Stevenage ) was a British motorcycle brand that existed from 1928 to 1955.

history

The brand was named after its founders Philip C. Vincent and Howard R. Davies. In their day, the Vincent machines had a reputation for being the fastest, most expensive, and most exclusive motorcycles available. The most important models had 500 single-cylinder and 1000 V-twin-cylinder engines . The 1000 Black Shadow (55 PS) and Black Lightning (72 PS) were considered the fastest production motorcycles until the late 1960s.

With a Vincent, Rollie Free set the American motorcycle speed record of 150 mph in 1948 . One of Russel Wright driven, with a streamlining provided Black Lightning held from 1955 to 1956 the absolute motorcycle speed record 298 km / h.

To counteract the slump in sales in 1954, Vincent also added two-stroke motorcycles to his range under license from NSU . However, only about 40 of the NSU Vincent 123 cc (NSU Fox) were built in 1955.

The NSU-Vincent 50 cc (NSU-Quickly) sold 20,000 units in one year, but was discontinued because NSU itself took over the production and distribution for Great Britain.
