The place Vormoos is a straight line 26½ kilometers southwest of Vöcklabruck , just over 4 km north of Mondsee and 2 kilometers southeast of the municipal main town of Zell am Moos .

The small hamlet has 6 buildings with 24 residents.

It is located high on the northern roof of the Lackenberg  ( 925  m above sea level ) at 815  m above sea level. A. Altitude, about 250 meters above the valley floor. East it goes down into the narrow valley of the uppermost Vöckla , there is at 698  m above sea level. A. remote the Vormoos mill ( Harpoint  31). The valley of a small feeder of the Vökla leads down there. To the west the Zeller Bach goes to the Irrsee. The place is therefore exactly on the watershed of the Vöckla zur Ager (with its catchment areas Attersee or Mondsee and Irrsee).

The place can be reached via rural access roads from Zell am Moos up, from Haslau , from Harpoint on the L1279 Mondseebergstraße or from Mondsee via the Guggenberger heights. These paths are also walking or cycling routes with a view of the Mondseeland .

Geology and history

The location is a marginal moraine of a tongue of the Riss-temporal Dachstein glacier (around 200,000 years old). In addition to the main lobe of Straßwalchen, this formed a secondary tongue into the Haslau , which began at Vormoos. The terminal moraine of this branch is from Haslau-Berg to Gollau down to 650  m above sea level. A. well preserved, and also proven opposite at Schoibern am Gommersberg (at 795  m above sea level ). The Vormooser Möränenwall is clearly divided into two parts, one extends northeast past the Entersgraben down to Vöckla, and one north to Breitenau, which marks two advance maxima. Corresponding crack-age gravel sand on the Vöckla near Harpoint and over to the holding ditch near Heissing shows a side bulging of the glacier. The Lackenberg divided the rift from the Mondsee glacier into another side tongue on the Hochmoos , whose moraines at Ebnat reach just down to the Vormoosmühle. An extensive mass movement is found here.

The place name probably refers to a remains of a raised bog . The place appears in the Josephine (1st)  land survey around 1780. According to the Franciscan land register around 1830, the place already had 4 houses at that time, the Vormooser Saag is also listed. Today there is no sawmill there.
