Węża ( German Prockendorf ) is a place of Gmina Korfantów in the Opole Voivodeship in Poland .

Geographical location

Węża is located in the southwestern part of Upper Silesia in the Friedländer Land. The village of Węża is located about 13 kilometers southwest of the municipal seat of Korfantów , about 17 kilometers southeast of the district town of Nysa and about 53 kilometers southwest of the voivodeship capital Opole .

Węża lies in the Nizina Śląska ( Silesian Plain ) within the Równina Niemodlińska ( Falkenberg Plain ). The Nysa – Ścinawa Mała railway ran south of the village until the line was closed .

Neighboring towns of Węża are Włodary ( Volkmannsdorf ) in the north, Jegielnica ( Jäglitz ) in the east, Ścinawa Nyska ( Steinsdorf ) in the southeast and Gryżów ( Greisau ) in the south .

history

The village was first mentioned as Prakindorph in 1300 . In the 14th century the place was called as Wanza . In 1374 the place was mentioned as Brockendorff and Bruckendorff .

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Prockendorf and most of Silesia fell to Prussia .

After the reorganization of the province of Silesia which belonged rural community Prock village from 1816 to the district Neisse in the administrative district of Opole . In 1845 there was a Catholic church, a Catholic church and 93 houses in the village. In the same year there were 508 residents in Prockendorf, all of them Catholic. In 1865 the village had 33 farm and 40 cottage jobs. In 1874 the district of Steinsdorf was founded, which consisted of the rural communities of Jäglitz, Prockendorf and Steinsdorf. In 1885 there were 566 inhabitants.

In 1911, Steinsdorf was connected to the Upper Silesian railway network with the Neisse − Steinau OS route. In 1933, Prockendorf had 458 and 1939 459 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Neisse .

As a result of the Second World War, Prockendorf fell under Polish administration in 1945, like most of Silesia . The place was subsequently renamed Węża and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1946 the German population was expelled. In 1950 it was incorporated into the Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the newly founded Powiat Nyski ( Neisse district ). In 1966 passenger traffic on the railway to Nysa was stopped. In 2005 there were 438 people in Węża.

Attractions

  • The Roman Catholic Church of Christ the King (Polish Kościół św. Nikazego Biskupa Męczennika i Chrystusa Króla ) is the parish church of the parish of the same name in the village. The current building was built in 1767. A chapel was built in the same place as early as 1721. The bell tower was built in 1828. On May 6, 1893, the independent parish was founded. The church building was placed under monument protection in 1966.
