Rzymkowice ( German Ringwitz ) is a place of Gmina Korfantów in the Opole Voivodeship in Poland .

Geographical location

Rzymkowice is located in the southwestern part of Upper Silesia in the Friedländer Land. The village of Rzymkowice is located around seven kilometers east of the municipality of Korfantów , around 30 kilometers east of the district town of Nysa and around 37 kilometers southwest of the voivodeship capital Opole .

Rzymkowice lies in the Nizina Śląska ( Silesian Plain ) within the Równina Niemodlińska ( Falkenberg Plain ). The village is surrounded by extensive forest areas that belong to the Niemodlin forest.

In 1534 the village was first mentioned as Rzenkhowitz .

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Ringwitz and most of Silesia fell to Prussia . From 1743 to 1818 the place belonged to the district of Opole .

After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community of Ringwitz belonged to the district of Neustadt OS in the administrative district of Opole from 1818 . In 1845 there was a Catholic school and 44 houses in the village. In the same year, 491 people lived in Ringwitz, all of them Catholic. In 1865 the village had 2 hereditary scholtiseien, 16 farmer, 15 gardener and 33 cottager positions. The Catholic school was attended by 132 students in the same year. In 1874 the district of Ringwitz was founded, which consisted of the places Leopoldsdorf, Przychod and Ringwitz. In 1885 Ringwitz had 768 inhabitants.

In 1933 Ringwitz had 974 inhabitants. In 1937 the district of Ringwitz was moved to Waldfurt. In 1939 there were 963 people in Ringwitz. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Neustadt OS

As a result of the Second World War, Ringwitz fell under Polish administration in 1945, like most of Silesia . The place was subsequently renamed Rzymkowice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1946 the German population was expelled. In 1950 it was incorporated into the Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the newly founded Powiat Nyski ( Neisse district ). In 2008 the village had 578 inhabitants.

  • The Roman Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul (Polish Kościół św. Apostołów Piotra i Pawła ) was built in 1904.
  • The Chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Polish Kaplica Matki Boskiej Nieustającej Pomocy ) was built in 1947. It is located southwest of the village on the road to Stara Jamka.
