Obersolis

Obersolis is a fraction of the Graubünden municipality of Vaz / Obervaz . It is the only fraction of the municipality to the left of the Albula , on the southern side of the Schin Gorge . Obersolis is assigned to the post office 7450 Tiefencastel and consists of the small settlements Solis ( Romansh Solas, 850  m above sea level ) and Obersolis, (Romansh Solas seura , 1120  m ). In 1990 Obersolis had 8 inhabitants.

Solis was first mentioned as ze Soles around 1330 . The Vazi income toboggan from around 1330 names two farms for Solis. Archaeological finds show that Solis was already settled in Roman times.

Heidseewerk

From 1917 to 1919, the Zurich City Electricity Works (EWZ) built the Heidseewerk, whose machine house is in Solis. It processes the water from the Heidsee and initially served to cover peak energy in winter, when the Albula did not have enough water, so that the Albula plant could not provide full output. Originally there were two Pelton turbines in the machine room , which were replaced by a new Pelton turbine in 1953. The power plant has a turbine output of 7 MW and generates 24 GWh of green electricity annually .

Originally, a mule track connection to Mutten . Since 1869 Solis has been opened up with the cantonal road through the Schin Gorge. In 1903 the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) opened the Albula line with the Solis station, which today only serves as a service station.

Since 2006, a newly constructed 6.4-kilometer single-lane road has led from the Soliserbrücke via Obersolis to Mutten. The main component of the new connection is the 1,312 meter long Muttner Tobel tunnel, which safely crosses the valley of the same name. The road is from the post bus line 90521 Thusis -Solis-Mutten- Obermutten used.

Pilgrimage Church of Solis

The beautifully situated pilgrimage church forms a harmonious unit with the rectory . West facade with portal framing and lärchernen shingles covered tower dome .

In May 1687 the construction of the pilgrimage church of St. Mary's Visitation and St. Felix began. A chapel dedicated to St. Lucius is said to have stood there since 1354 . Father Bernardo the Marone OC directed the building and recorded the history of the building. He and his brother Lorenzo da Adolo are said to have heard angels singing in three visions asking them to build a church in Solis. Despite the initial resistance of Chur Bishop Ulrich de Mont , Father Bernardo put the Annunciation in a sermon on the feast (March 25th) ) In 1687 presented his plan to build the church. According to Father Bernardo's records, the Vazer population completed the construction in just four months. The draft cattle used in the construction , which suffered from foot-and-mouth disease, are said to have returned home healthy after work. In 1688 the church was simply consecrated . In the following years the sacristy , tower and rectory were built. On June 23, 1697, the church was consecrated by the Chur bishop Ulrich von Federspiel .

The pilgrimage church belongs to the Catholic parish of Vaz / Obervaz Lenzerheide. The exterior was restored in 1979/80.

Soliser bridges

Today's old stone arch bridge was probably built in 1869 and replaced a covered wooden bridge at that time . The Soliserbrücke is the oldest bridge in this narrow place next to the road bridge from 1970 and the Soliser Viaduct of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) from 1902. At 89 meters, the railway bridge is the highest RhB bridge.
