The Walther P99 is a pistol made by the German weapons manufacturer Walther .

history

The development of the pistol began in 1994. In 1996 it was ready for the market. The most striking feature is the absence of a rooster , the P99 has instead an internal firing pin. The cocking state of the hammer can be recognized and felt by a rear red signal pin. The charging status of the P99 can be seen from the pull-out claw .

technology

The weapon works according to the Browning system and has a 16 mm rail under the barrel for optoelectronic aiming aids . It is also possible to mount a silencer if a special longer barrel with a silencer thread is inserted. When not in use, this thread is covered by a thread protection nut.

There is no manual safety mechanism , as is common with most self-loading pistols, and the weapon is immediately ready to fire when loaded. Automatic safety devices and the so-called anti-stress trigger on the P99AS guarantee protection against unintentional firing.

The backstrap is interchangeable and can be adapted to different hand shapes and sizes. The rounded design means that the weapon can hardly get tangled when it is carried concealed under clothing.

With the S&W SW99 , Smith & Wesson produced a pistol in cooperation with Walther that is similar to the P99, but was also available in .45 ACP .

Model variants

The P99QA is a variant of the P99 with a quick-action trigger . On the P99QA, the button for releasing the hammer has been made smaller than on the P99AS. In normal use, it can no longer be operated as quickly and with gloves only with difficulty. When the first cartridge is fed into the chamber, the hammer is automatically partially cocked and the weapon is guided without manual safety.

Another variant is the P99 with a double-action-only system as the P99DAO. There is also the P99C, the compact version of the P99.

The P99Q works as the basic model for the chip extractor principle , so that part been fixed on by loading the striker assembly. Only when the trigger is fully withdrawn is the firing pin lock fully cocked against the pressure of the firing spring and the shot triggered by the firing pin rushing forward onto the cartridge base. Additional modifications to the P99Q consist of the fact that the weapon has an accessory rail to hold additional devices and that a transponder for data recording is implemented under the back of the handle.
