geography
The place is located in the southwestern part of the West Siberian lowlands a good 30 kilometers as the crow flies east of the Kurgan Oblast Administrative Center , in the midst of several smaller lakes.
The settlement is the administrative center of the Rajons Wargaschinski .
history
Wargaschi goes back to one of the "outposts" that emerged around 1743 in this area along the border of the Russian Empire at that time to the more southern areas inhabited only by nomadic steppe peoples (contemporary name "Kirghiz") in the form of the Ishim line named after the river . With the shift of the border to the south in the course of the 18th century, Maximowski forpost , named after Lake Maximovskoye, about eight kilometers northeast of today's settlement, lost its military significance. "State" (ie not serf ) farmers were allowed to settle and founded a village initially known as Wargaschowa (after a family name). It was later moved to another lake, about three kilometers southeast of the current settlement.
At the end of the 19th century, the Trans-Siberian Railway on its west-Siberian section from Chelyabinsk to Omsk was brought by, and a station settlement was built around the station that had opened there. This soon surpassed the original village in terms of population and importance and became independent in 1924 with the establishment of a Rajon as its administrative seat. In 1944 urban-type settlement was granted.
