Kargapolje ( Russian Каргаполье ) is an urban-type settlement in Kurgan Oblast ( Russia ) with 8,433 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The settlement is located in the southwestern part of the West Siberian lowlands, about 80 kilometers as the crow flies, northwest of the Kurgan Oblast Administrative Center , on the left bank of the Miass River, about 20 km above its confluence with the Isset .
Kargapolje is the administrative center of the Kargapolski Rajons and the seat of the municipality of the same name (gorodskoje posselenije), to which, in addition to the settlement, the villages Khramowa (about 4 km southwest) and Schabartschina (3 km northeast) as well as those about 12 to 15 km north to northwest along the villages of Tashkowa, Nechunayeva and Mishagina on the right bank of the Isset belong.
history
The place was founded in 1670 by resettlers from the city of Kargopol in the north of European Russia, in today 's Arkhangelsk Oblast , and named after them; initially the name forms Kargapolowa and Kargapolskoje were in use. At the beginning of the 19th century, the village became the seat of a Volost of Ujezds Schadrinsk in what was then Perm Governorate .
On January 18, 1824, a Rajon with administrative headquarters in Kargapolje, as the place was now called, was founded. On January 9, 1969, the place received the status of an urban-type settlement.

Culture and sights
The 1895 built and 1939 closed Mary protection Intercession -Church ( церковь Покрова Пресвятой Богородицы , Zerkow Pokrova Preswjatoi Bogoroditsy ) has been restored from the 1990s and reopened of 2004. Kargapolje is home to the Rajon's Historical and Local Museum .
Economy and Infrastructure
There is a machine factory in Kargapolje which, among other things, produces equipment for oil and gas extraction, as well as food and light industry companies.
The R354 trunk road , which connects Yekaterinburg to Kurgan via Kamensk-Uralsky and Shadrinsk , runs through the settlement . 17 km southwest of the settlement is the Kargapolje station on the Yekaterinburg - Kurgan railway line, which opened in 1934 and electrified in 1971 (line km 263), a cross-connection between the northern main line of the Trans-Siberian Railway via Tyumen and the original and present southern route via Chelyabinsk . The village of the same name, Kargapolje , developed at the station belongs to the rural municipality (selskoje posselenije) Maiski selsowet des Kargapolski rajon.
