Waylon Francis (born September 20, 1990 in Puerto Limón ) is a Costa Rican football player who is used as a defender . He is currently under contract with Columbus Crew .
Career
Club career
In his youth he was active with CD Saprissa in the Costa Rican province of San José . From there he went to Brujas FC for the 2010/11 season . He got his first appearance on January 13, 2011 in a 0-2 away win at CD Barrio México , in which he was on the field from the start, but was replaced at halftime by Elmer Umaña .
For the Invierno 2011 he went to Limón FC again . At the beginning of 2012 it went on to CS Herediano . With this club he then won the championship title in Verano 2012 and Verano 2013 .
In early 2014 he left his home country and joined the Columbus Crew from Ohio in the USA . In the MLS 2014 season he received his first appearance on the first day of the match in a 3-0 away win at DC United . Here he was active until the end of the 2017 season . In the summer of 2015 he won as part of the team in the MLS All-Star Game 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur .
After this station he moved on to the Seattle Sounders . But where he was only active in the 2018 season . Then he returned to the Columbus crew .
National team career
His first appearance in the national team of Costa Rica was on January 21, 2013 with a 2-0 victory over Nicaragua during the group stage in the Copa Centroamericana 2013 , in which game he was on the field for the full 90 minutes. In the end, his team managed to win the title. At the 2014 World Cup , he was in the squad, but was not used. After that, he was only used in friendly matches so far.
