Fanendo Adi (born October 10, 1990 in Lagos ) is a Nigerian football player . He has been under contract with Columbus Crew since 2020 .
Career
Europe
In 2009 Fanendo Adi ventured into Europe and signed a contract with the Slovak first division club FK AS Trenčín . Adi scored 18 goals in 42 games.
After his successful time in Slovakia, Adi moved to Metalurh Donetsk in Ukraine in 2011 . His time there was not very successful. After a brief loan to Dynamo Kiev (three games, no goals), he left Donetsk and joined Tavriya Simferopol . There, too, was over after only nine games and one goal.
Adi then moved back to Trenčín . There he was able to build on the performance of bygone days.
With ten goals in nineteen games, Adi recommended himself for a move to FC Copenhagen . Adi scored a goal straight away in his debut against FC Vestsjælland , despite not having a residence permit or work permit.
Due to his good performance, he was invited to a trial training session at the Dutch first division club Ajax Amsterdam at the age of twenty .
Major League Soccer
On May 13, 2014 Adi moved on loan to the Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer . The Timbers had an option to buy at the end of the loan. In his first game from the start, he scored a brace on May 28, 2014 against CD Chivas USA . This he succeeded in the subsequent game against Real Salt Lake City .
The Timbers decided on June 23, 2014 to take the purchase option for Adi and made him the fourth Designated Player in the club's history. On April 8, 2017, Adi became Timbers' all-time top scorer after scoring a penalty against the Philadelphia Union .
On July 30, 2018, Cincinnati FC announced the signing of Adis. Adi Noch USL franchise changed for the equivalent of € 725,000 . With this change, Adi became the first designated player in the history of the FCC, who will play in the MLS from the 2019 season.
International career
Adi has been nominated twice for the Nigerian U23 national team. He was also nominated for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt , but was not used.
