Webster (name)
Webster is an English surname and male given name.
Origin and meaning
It is derived from the Old English word for weaver ( webbestre ); in Middle and New English, the meaning of the word webster expanded to include a term for male weavers; today it has been supplanted by weaver and is considered obsolete.
The use as a first name and a toponym are derived from the original use as a family name (for the toponyms, see the Webster's disambiguation page ).
