Werner Kamenik

Werner Kamenik (born January 23, 1910 in Elstertrebnitz ; † April 29, 1993 in Berlin ; actually Gustav Werner Steinmetz ) was a German actor. He was the brother of the actor Herbert Steinmetz and worked in film, television, radio and dubbing in the GDR .

Life

After an apprenticeship as a bookseller at a commercial school, Werner Kamenik took private acting lessons. In 1928 he began his career as an announcer and comedian in various revues and cabarets . Between 1934 and 1941 he worked on various stages in what was then Czechoslovakia , then in Meissen and Posen .

After 1945 he worked at theaters in Bautzen, Freiberg, Görlitz, Annaberg and Dresden, among others. At the end of the 1950s he joined the State Broadcasting Committee of the GDR in order to head the German Ensemble of the Czech State Theater in Prague. In 1961 he was artistic director in Rudolstadt for a short time and then worked freelance.

Werner Kamenik appeared in more than 25 cinema productions, including 1965 in the Liebknecht film As long as life is in me , and well over 100 television appearances. He became particularly well-known through the television series Polizeiruf 110 , in which he was seen in roles of older men.
