Wetzdorf is a district of the city of Schkölen in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia .

Geography and geology

Trading roads used to lead through the former street village , now it is the L1070 state road from Camburg to Eisenberg and connects the place with the transport network very cheaply with a connection to the federal motorway 9 near Eisenberg. The bus service to the school in Schkölen and to the grammar school in Eisenberg can also be used publicly. The district is located on a plateau above the Tautenburg Forest . These shell limestone soils have been covered with a layer of loess and therefore have a high soil fertility. Neighboring towns are south of Rockau , west of Tautenburg , north of Frauenprießnitz , east of Poppendorf and south-east of Mertendorf .

history

The first documentary mention of Wetzdorf was registered as early as 1219. Originally, the Tautenburg taverns were masters of the place. After this noble family died out, Wetzdorf belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office of Tautenburg from 1640/52 . With the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the place became part of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach and in 1822 it was incorporated into the Bürgel and Tautenburg office. In 1850 the place came to the administrative district Weimar II (from 1868: administrative district Apolda ) of the Grand Duchy. Wetzdorf has belonged to the state of Thuringia since 1920.

The Wetzdorfer Gut was expropriated without compensation after the Second World War, the land and the inventory was transferred to resettlers and poor farmers. Then from 1952 the farmers had to go the way of collectivization of agriculture. After the fall of the Wall they found new forms of cooperation or even became resettlers.

Bell house

The bell has been hanging in the bell house in front of the baroque church since 1821 because the church tower was dilapidated. There is also a separate bell house in neighboring Poppendorf.

In 2013, during excavation work near the village, remains of the village of Schellendorf were found .

After reunification, 12 smaller companies were formed. The catering service is also very important in the village, because Tautenburg, Dornburg, Naumburg and Jena can be easily reached from here.
