Wiesen is a district of the Upper Franconian town of Seßlach in the Coburg district .

geography

Wiesen is about 14 kilometers southwest of Coburg on a slope above the Rodach . The district road CO 9 from Heilgersdorf leads through the village. The castle of the same name, which stands on a rock, is characteristic of the site. Wiesen is the seat of a medium-sized forwarding company.

history

Wiesen was first mentioned in 1231/33 with "Helmbricus de wisen" as a witness in a Bamberg document. The core of the village is the castle, which was part of a manor. In the 13th century, the noble family von Wiesen ruled the estate. Around 1400 it came into the possession of the von Lichtenstein family .

Wiesen belonged to the Würzburg monastery , which was secularized in 1803 and largely added to the Electorate of Bavaria . From December 1806 to 1814, Wiesen belonged to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg . In 1818, Wiesen became part of the political municipality of Heilgersdorf, whereby the municipal rights remained unaffected. In 1862, Wiesens was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian District Office in Ebern .

In 1818 the castle was sold by Mr. von Lichtenstein senior to Mr. von Bibra . In 1822 it was returned to Mr. von Lichtenstein junior, who resold it to the treasurer von Pawel zu Geyersberg in 1829/30. Further changes of ownership followed in the next few decades.

In 1830 the property consisted of the castle building, a brewery and fountain house, three day laborer's houses and several barns and stables. Six families lived in the four houses. The estate comprised 670 acres of land.

In 1875, Wiesen, which belonged to the Heilgersdorf rural community, had 30 residents and 11 buildings. The children went to school in Heilgersdorf.

In 1925, Wiesen had 45 residents and 4 houses. Between 1936 and 1937 the manor with 144.8 hectares was divided into the districts of Heilgersdorf and Seßlach. As a result, two new settler positions were created in Wiesen for farmers from the Rhön, who were relocated due to the establishment of the Wildflecken military training area , as well as a farm worker and a craftsman position. The estate was expanded into a hamlet.

On July 1, 1972, the Lower Franconian district of Ebern was dissolved. Since then, Wiesen has been part of the Coburg district . In the course of the Bavarian regional reform , Heilgersdorf lost its independence as a municipality on May 1, 1978. Wiesen became a part of the municipality of the city of Sesslach.

In 1987 the village had 27 residents and 6 houses with 10 apartments. Wiesen belongs to the parish of the Evangelical Lutheran parish church in Heilgersdorf.
