action

With the recent sale of a special edition by a customer, which is a valuable one-of-a-kind, Wilsberg has raised 10,000 euros. But the supposed prosperity of the always damp antiquarian does not last long. Two hooded petty criminals attacked Wilsberg armed with an iron bar and a toy gun in his antiquarian bookshop. Wilsberg manages to hide one of his business cards between the banknotes before the money is taken from him. While one of the perpetrators fainted in the back room, the other, who wore a conspicuous tattoo in the form of a spider web on his neck, ran away with the cash. The burglar, helped to his feet by the paramedics who have been summoned, manages to escape from the ambulance before the police arrive to arrest him.

Instead of getting support from the police in the search for the perpetrators, Wilsberg is suspected that the stolen amount could have been black money, as he cannot provide any evidence of the origin of the income and thus suggests staged insurance fraud . During a police interrogation, Wilsberg caught a glimpse of a photo of the intruder, whose name was unknown to him. Georg Wilsberg then tries to get the stolen money back on his own. He does manage to track down Marv, one of the perpetrators, in a shabby apartment building, whom he presses to hand over his money. Most of the money, however, has already been spent by his accomplice Lukas. After being stunned with a stun gun, a stranger pushed him off the Tormin Bridge and found lifeless in the Aasee the next day . Wilsberg's friend, Commissioner Anna Springer, has to start the investigation against Wilsberg together with her assistant Overbeck, since he is now suspected of murder.

Meanwhile, Ekki has put himself in an awkward position due to the tax audit of the construction company Große-Eschhaus, where he suspects tax fraud. In his private account, the management of the local construction company received the sum of 10,000 euros with the cryptic purpose "GE". In this way, the managing director Horst Große-Eschhaus and his accountant Felix Berning try to arouse the suspicion that a competitor has bribed the tax officer Ekki in order to discredit the construction company Große-Eschhaus. After an anonymous reference to this receipt of payment, Ekki is suspected of corruption by his superior. When Ekki naively grants his superior Grabowski a look at his online bank account at Teutoburger Bank, the anonymously reported incoming payment is confirmed, the purpose of which seems to refer to the company Große-Eschhaus, which is why he is suspended from work and the construction company's plans are working seem to be.

During his investigation, Wilsberg stumbles over another corpse in the neighboring apartment of the burglar he is observing. The disabled pensioner Lothar Wanderscheidt was apparently killed a few days ago. Anna Springer has meanwhile discovered Wilsberg's business card in the purse of the dead Lukas Feldmann and then resumes the investigation. Wilsberg consults his goddaughter Alex to arrest the killer and to refute the murder allegations brought against him. Like Ekki, he is dependent on Alex's legal assistance.

During his further research, he comes across Wanderscheidt's geriatric nurse Sprakel, who tells him that the pensioner has illegally brought money abroad. The contractor for the transport of the black money was the entrepreneur Große-Eschhaus, who, as it turned out later, knew Wanderscheidt from school. Große-Eschhaus' accountant Berning is now threatening Sprakel because he suspects that the amount of the last trip that has not been delivered is with her. After Wilsberg and Ekki and Alex set a trap for the two fraudsters, they can be arrested by the police. However, Wanderscheidt was killed by Sprakel who, out of anger that he had hired a cheaper caregiver from Eastern Europe, brought him down with a wheelchair. Lukas, who witnessed the confrontation in the hallway, blackmailed her and was pushed off the bridge by her.

Last but not least, Wilsberg can sell the Cadillac, which was given to him by Alex on behalf of Marv, for 10,000 euros. The two burglars had rushed to spend their booty on buying the car because they suspected something was wrong with the money. Große-Eschhaus's black money hidden in Wanderscheidt's apartment was hidden in food-on-wheels packaging that ended up in a dumpster when Wanderscheidt's apartment was cleared.

criticism

According to Thomas Gehringer's judgment, the episode Das Geld der Others (The Money of Others) is met by a “slightly confusing plot and a brave staging” on “quibbling between the (predominantly) sympathetic main characters”. "The dialogues are sometimes lively, sometimes clumsy and the ensemble comes into play in a balanced and equal manner", but "hair-raising coincidences often drive the plot forward". “Logic down to the last detail is less important here,” says Gehringer, as the film knows how to entertain in its own way, because “the pace is high for Wilsberg standards, and the black money issue remains, on a large and small scale , consistently the central theme of the film ”. "Some pretty sidekicks", including Collien Ulmen-Fernandes as a cleaning lady with IT skills, enhance the episode. Not least because of a cameo by rock musician Steffi Stephan from Münster , “the Wilsberg crime scene in Münster will continue to be routine for fans of the series, but it will be maintained in an entertaining way”. There is “a lot going on in the Wilsberg episode”, which “is one of the more entertaining of the series” and “format television that is not just routine”. In summary, Gehringer awarded four out of six possible points.

Tilmann P. Gangloff wrote for the Frankfurter Rundschau that the episode The Money of Others was "not outstanding, but worth seeing". "How author Jürgen Kehrer succeeds in linking the different storylines" of the tax and murder case "finally credibly to a unified story is quite impressive," said Gangloff, praising the script. "The staging, on the other hand, is rather inconspicuous," was Gangloff's judgment on the quality of Dominic Müller's directorial work . "As always, it's great fun to watch the actors, and that doesn't just apply to the regular ensemble", because "the guest actors are also worth seeing, above all Vladimir Burlakov as a young robber with the fatal tendency to faint in dangerous situations" , as well as Stefanie Höner in the role of the "sympathetic geriatric nurse".

According to the TV Spielfilm editorial staff, the episode The Money of Others is a “typical Wilsberg case” and offers “funny things from crime thriller Münsterland”. As an overall rating, the episode received a neutral and thus the second best of three possible ratings.

The editorial staff of prisma judged that "this new case in the series is also walking on completely worn paths" and awarded the episode one of three possible points.

The review by the TV Today editorial team said that the episode was “nice, but this time it overshoots the mark”. The money of the others comes "as always with strange humor", "even if the comedy seems a little trying this time". The episode was "staged in a milieu-safe manner", although the case was "hopelessly overloaded with a constructed subplot" and the social criticism seemed "artificial". As an overall rating, the series received one of three possible points.

Johannes Loy from Westfälische Nachrichten is of the opinion that the episode The Money of Others contains “more crime this time”. Instead of relying on "psychological slapstick", "a partially dramatic case" is told in the episode. The “skirmishes” between Overbeck and Wilsberg are “cute”. The resolution that screenwriter Jürgen Kehrer had devised with “tricky” thought left a feeling of amazement . "It can continue like this with Wilsberg and Co.", Loy concluded his positive criticism.
