Wolfgang Newerla (born February 3, 1963 in Düsseldorf ) is a German concert, opera and oratorio singer ( baritone ).

Life

Wolfgang Newerla was born as the second son of the Ria and Willibald. In autumn 1964 the company moved to Hamm / Westphalia. Even while visiting kindergarten, Wolfgang Newerla took part in early musical education at the municipal music school in Hamm / Westphalia. At the age of nine he received his first clarinet lessons.

In 1982 Wolfgang Newerla graduated from high school Hammonense with a strong musical branch. With the school orchestra he gave concerts in large parts of Germany, England, Scotland, Ireland, Holland, France, Spain and Italy. These trips made the social and emotional impact of music for Wolfgang Newerla tangible for the first time.

In the middle of the seventies piano and theory lessons followed, in 1980 the first singing lessons and participation in the madrigal choir of the high school and in the choir of the municipal music association. Wolfgang Newerla has been married to the mezzo-soprano Ursula Eittinger since 1997 .

Career

After graduating from high school, he did community service in a nursing home and went on to attend music school, played in various orchestras, in the big band of the city of Hamm and took part in performances by the municipal choir, in which Judith Beckmann , Peter Schreier , Donald Grobe , Harald Stamm and Adalbert Kraus appeared.

In April 1986, Wolfgang Newerla began studying under the leadership of Arthur Janzen at the State University in Detmold. In 1997 Wolfgang Newerla sang Cortez in a highly acclaimed production of the Conquest of Mexico by Wolfgang Rihm . For this achievement he was nominated for the “Singer of the Year” award in the Opernwelt magazine's critics' survey . Wolfgang Newerla received the special prize of the Carl Orff Foundation in 2013 for his interpretation of Prometheus in the production of the same name at the Ruhrtriennale 2012.
