Voznesensk (Ukrainian Вознесенськ ; Russian Вознесенск ) is an oblast-administrated city in Mykolaiv Oblast in Ukraine . It is located on the left bank of the Southern Bug at the confluence with the Mertvovid (Мертвовід) and is the administrative seat of the Voznesensk Rajon .
The city was re-founded in 1790 at the instigation of Tsarina Catherine the Great on a previously existing Cossack settlement. Major expansion plans were halted by the death of the Tsarina in 1796, but the city developed into a local center in the region.
