Csepel [ 'tʃɛpɛl ] (German: Tschepele ) is the name of the twenty-first district (XXI. District) in Budapest . It is the only district on the island of the same name.

Location and dates
The 21st district is located in the northern part of the Danube island Csepel . On the opposite bank is the 22nd district in the west, the 9th , 20th and 23rd district in the east . In the southern part of the island it borders on the place Szigetszentmiklós , which belongs to the agglomeration of Budapest. In the ranking of the most populous districts, Csepel ranks 11th out of 23.
The 21st district is divided into the districts of Csepel Belváros , Csepel Kertváros , Csepel Ófalu , Csepel Rózsadomb , Csepel Szabótelep , Csillagtelep , Erdőalja , Erdősor , Gyártelep , Háros , Királyerdő , Királymajor and Szigetcsúcs .

Csepel is connected to the HÉV at Boráros tér with the center of Budapest. Bus route 179 from the Közvágóhíd bridge , or lines 35, 36, 148 and 151, cross the Gubacsi-híd bridge east to Kőbánya - Kispest , Soroksár -Újtelep and Pesterzsébet . The 138 bus connects the island district with Budatétény on the western bank of the Danube.
Csepel can be reached by car from the west via Szabadkikötő út . From the south the II. Rákóczi Ferenc út leads into the center of the district. The M0 motorway (Hungary) runs outside the city limits and also runs across the island.
history
In the 19th century, Csepel became an important industrial area. In particular, a center for heavy industry developed there . Numerous workers' apartments and allotments were built in the vicinity . On January 1, 1950, Csepel was incorporated into the capital along with many other parishes.
economy
In addition to the traditional metalworking plants, there is now a paper mill, among other things. In the first half of the 20th century, the industrialist Manfréd Weiss shaped economic development with his steel mill. At that time the company manufactured the broadest range of products in Eastern Europe. After the Second World War , the company became state property. In the 1950s the products were exported to Tibet. The company's importance later declined. At the end of the 1980s it was no longer profitable to maintain it in view of the collapse in demand. Today there is an industrial park with several hundred companies, offices and shops on the site.
natural reserve
The Tamariska domb at Királyerdő is the only protected area. Since 1999 it has been under the protection of the capital. Some of the animal and plant species living there are on the Council of Europe's red list . Many are Pannonian endemics . Since regulation XII. 8. of the Minister for Environmental Protection and Water from 2006, the Ráckaver or Soroksár Danube has the status of a natural monument of outstanding importance ("Kiemelt jelentőségű természetmegőrzési területek").

Sports
Soccer :
The Csepel SC soccer team was mostly successful from the 1940s to the 1970s. During this time the club won several championships. After financial problems in the 1990s, the team was disbanded in 2001. In 2006, the newly formed team won the Budapest Championship and was promoted to the NB III league. However, the football department was not re-established. Today the players belong to the TUE association of the 3rd district.
Basketball and Streetball :
The Rákóczi Kert ( "Rákóczi Garden"), there is a basketball and streetball association.
Volleyball :
As a result of the partial dissolution of SC Csepel, some departments continued to function independently. One of the successor organizations is the volleyball club Csepeli RC, which plays in the upper midfield.
Other sports clubs that have emerged from the SC practice kayaking , canoeing and wrestling .
