You FM ( original spelling YOU FM ) is a radio program of the Hessischer Rundfunk . The program manager has been Jan Vorderwülbecke since September 2011 , who succeeded the founding program manager Jan Weyrauch . Station-Voice is, among others, Tanya Kahana .

history

Until December 31, 2003, the station was known as hr XXL and was valued by fans of the club scene beyond Hesse , above all because of the XXL Clubnights . In the course of an image change, they wanted to finally get rid of the image of the “techno broadcaster”, which they had not been for a long time anyway, and since January 1, 2004 they called themselves You FM .

Under the motto “You FM - young fresh music”, it offers mainstream music for everyone, similar to hr3 , but with a slightly more up-to-date and youthful touch - the special-interest programs are only available in the evenings (from 9 p.m. you FM sounds special music programs , from 11 p.m. Talk , initially under the name You FM Nightline , since April 12, 2010 the Lateline together with other ARD youth channels . Program now discontinued on June 26, 2019). You FM broadcast day and night continuously with its own program until mid-2018, although the program was not moderated between 1:00 and 5:30 a.m. - only music from the playlist was played.

Since the beginning of July 2018, the latest ARD joint program Die Junge Nacht der ARD has been broadcast during the night . Monday to Friday from midnight to 5 a.m. and on weekends from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.

You FM has been using the new slogan "Music like me" since autumn 2012. Since then it has been possible to vote for each song on the website or your own mobile app with “Like” or “Dislike” and thus influence the playlist. The transmission scheme was also changed; for example, the programs Charts and Roadshow were dropped, and You FM Press Play on Saturday evening . Between 2014 and 2016, the station took over the program Sanft & Sorgvollig until it was discontinued from Radio Eins .

Range

According to the 2018 Media Analysis, an average of 255,000 people listen to You FM's programs per day (89,000 listeners per hour). This puts the station behind its direct competitor planet radio with 352,000 listeners per day (94,000 listeners per hour).

reception

You FM can mainly be received via VHF , although there are gaps in coverage for historical reasons; reception is largely limited to the metropolitan areas. In Northern Hesse , the transmitter can be received across the board at the frequency of 97.7 MHz. In February 2013, some frequencies of the cultural program hr2-kultur were broadcast on the information wave hr-info and You FM, for example B. in southern Hesse with the former hr2 frequency 95.3 MHz. The private broadcaster Hit Radio FFH spoke of "sleight of hand with the HR to get a technical advantage" and demanded a legal examination of the surprising frequency change. This view was not confirmed by the legislature.

You FM can also be received in Hessen via the analog cable network and in some parts of Germany also via the digital cable network ( DVB-C ). You can also hear the station via DVB-S . There is also a live stream on the Internet, where, in addition to the standard program, the three additional channels Rock , Black and Club are broadcast.

In the Rhine-Main area , the program is also broadcast via digital radio via the hr multiplex in the DAB + standard . This went into operation on December 1, 2011 and is intended to be the successor to VHF transmission.

RDS

Like all Hessischer Rundfunk stations , You FM also uses the RDS function of the dynamic RDS-PS and usually sends the station name as well as the title played with the artist and, at irregular intervals, telephone numbers (e.g. retrieval of traffic jams).

broadcasts

Regular broadcasts include a. the The You FM morning show (Monday to Friday) and the BigCityBeats on Friday night.
