Jaroslaw Jurjewytsch Vynokur ( Ukrainian Ярослав Юрьевич Винокур ; English transcription: Yaroslav Vinokyr; born  June 6, 1974 in Odessa , Ukrainian SSR ) is a former Ukrainian billiard player who was mainly active in the billiard variant Russian billiards . He became world champion in the free pyramid in 2003 and 2011 and European champion in 2005 . In addition, he was Ukrainian champion in the dynamic pyramid in 2008 and 2009 and in the pool 10-ball discipline in 2011 .

Career

Russian billiards

Wynokur started playing pool at the age of 14. In 2001 he moved into the final of the World Championships in the Free Pyramid , in which he lost 4-7 to the Kazakhs Kanybek Sagyndykow . At the 2002 World Cup , however, he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Rustam Kerimow . At the European Championship of the same year he reached the final and lost 5-7 against Vladimir Petushkow . In May 2003 he reached the final of the World Cup for the second time and met the Russian Yevgeny Stalev , against whom he had lost 2-4 in the preliminary round. In the final Wynokur prevailed after a 3-0 deficit 7-5 and became the first Ukrainian world champion in Russian billiards. He is also the only Ukrainian to win the Free Pyramid title. Two months later he reached the final of the Baltic Cup and lost there to Kanybek Sagyndykow. At the EM 2003 he was eliminated in the semifinals against the later European champion Kirill Anishchenko . In 2004 he reached the quarter-finals of the European Championship and the second round of the Asian Cup. At the 2004 World Cup , he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Pawel Mechowow .

At the end of May 2005, Wynokur was European champion in the Free Pyramid with a 7: 6 final win against Seymur Məmmədov . A little later he won the Asian Cup with a 7-5 win over his compatriot Oleksandr Palamar . In October he achieved his first European Cup victory when he defeated the Moldovan Widschai Drangoi in the final at the tournament in Chișinău . At the final tournament of the European Cup in 2005, he was eliminated in the semi-finals. At the 2005 World Cup he reached the round of 16. In 2006 Wynokur retired from the European Championship and the Asian Cup as defending champion in the quarter-finals. In October 2006 he was fifth at the World Cup in the Dynamic Pyramid . A few weeks later he reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in the Free Pyramid , in which he had to admit defeat to the Russian Eduard Galijanz .

In March 2007, Wynokur won a European Cup for the second time. At the EM 2007 he reached the round of 16. In October 2007 he moved into the second round of the first World Cup in the Dynamic Pyramid and was subject to Widschai Drangoi. A little later he was eliminated from the Free Pyramid World Cup in the round of 16. In February 2008 he took part in the World Cup in the Combined Pyramid for the first time and moved into the final with six wins in a row, in which he had to admit defeat to Kazakh Älichan Qaranejew 6-0. In September 2008 he was Ukrainian champion in the dynamic pyramid in the final against Oleksandr Palamar . A little later he became runner-up in the Free Pyramid after a final defeat against Jewhen Palamar . At the World Cup in the Free Pyramid in 2008 he was eliminated in the round of 32, as in the previous year against Andrei Larionow .

At the beginning of 2009 he lost in the quarter-finals of the Combined Pyramid World Cup against the eventual world champion Aues Jeljubajew (4-5). In September he succeeded in defending his title at the Ukrainian championship in the dynamic pyramid. A little later he reached the semi-finals of the European Championship and the second round of the World Championship in the Free Pyramid . At the 2010 World Cup in the Combined Pyramid , he was eliminated in the round of 16. At the Ukrainian championship in the dynamic pyramid he lost after winning two titles in the previous years in the round of 16 against Jewhen Palamar. In October 2010 he was eliminated from the preliminary round of the World Cup in the Free Pyramid in Willingen for the first time. A month later he moved into the European Championship final, which he lost 7-2 to Andrei Freise .

In February 2011 Wynokur retired from the World Cup in the combined pyramid in the sixteenth finals. After he had already been eliminated in the preliminary round at the EM 2011, he made it into the final of the World Cup in the Free Pyramid for the third time in Kiev . He defeated the Armenian Armen Gabrielian 7-3 and became world champion for the second time after 2003. At 37 years, 4 months and 17 days he is the oldest world champion in Russian billiards. In the following year he took part in the world championships in Russian billiards for the last time: He reached the round of 32 in the combined pyramid and was eliminated in the preliminary round in the free pyramid after 5-0 defeats against Zuxriddin Hoshimov and Santeri Saarinen .

Pool

In December 2009 Wynokur took part in the 14/1 endless competition of the Ukrainian pool championship and was eliminated without a win. In November 2011 he moved into the final of the Ukrainian 9-Ball Cup, where he lost 8-2 to Artem Koschowyj . In December, he had no win at the Treviso Open , his first participation in the Euro Tour . A little later he won his first medals at the Ukrainian championship : He finished third in 9-ball and became Ukrainian 10-ball champion with an 8: 5 final victory over Leonid Klishchar . In 2012 he reached 49th place on the Euro Tour at the Austria Open and the North Cyprus Open . At the Ukrainian championship in 2012 he lost the 14/1 endless final 14: 100 against Artem Koschowyj. He won the bronze medal in 8-ball and 10-ball. In 2015 he reached 36th place in the 9-ball competition of the Derby City Classics .

In September 2018 he took part in a tournament on the Diamond Pool Tour in Las Vegas and reached fourth place.

In the Ukrainian Snooker Championship Wynokur was eliminated in 2004 without a win in the preliminary round. In 2011 he reached the semi-finals, in which he lost 3-0 to the eventual tournament winner Alan Trigg .
