Yekta Güngör Özden

Yekta Güngör Özden (born December 31, 1932 in the district of Niksar / province of Tokat ) is a Turkish lawyer and was President of the Turkish Constitutional Court from 1991 to 1998 .

career

Özden graduated from high school in Sivas and graduated from Ankara University Law Faculty in 1956 .

On January 11, 1979, he was appointed a full member of the Constitutional Court of Turkey and was elected Vice President on March 2, 1988. On May 8, 1991 he was elected President of the Constitutional Court and confirmed for another term on May 25, 1995. He held this office until January 1, 1998.

He works as a lecturer at Ufuk University . He is also the leading head of the " Ataturkçü Düşünce Derneği " (ADD), which organized the mass protests on April 14th and 15th, 2007 in Ankara with 300,000 participants. Özden writes columns for the daily Sözcü, which is critical of the government .
