The Zurich E-Prix is an automobile race of the FIA Formula E Championship in Zurich , Switzerland . The Federal Council decided on 1 April 2016 softening of the ban on public circuit races in Switzerland by exemptions for races with electric cars will be awarded.

The organization of the race is taken over by the specially founded Swiss E-Prix Operations AG under the direction of Pascal Derron. Already three months before the first staging of the race, the company announced that it had extended the contract with the FIA Formula E Championship, which originally ran until 2024, for another three years, i.e. until 2027. The license gives the company the exclusive right to organize annual E-Prix in Switzerland. Swiss cities could apply to host an E-Prix here. A race in Lugano was originally planned for 2016 . After the financing in Lugano did not come about, according to media reports, the equivalent of 10 million euros was necessary, the city of Zurich stepped in for 2017. However, the first edition did not take place until 2018.

According to Mayor Corine Mauch in spring 2018, there will probably not be any regular Formula E races in Zurich. The city of Zurich had given authorization to hold Formula E races in 2018 and 2019. The race calendar for the 2018/19 FIA Formula E Championship was also scheduled to take place again in June 2019.

The first Zurich E-Prix was held on a specially set up temporary racing track in the Enge district of the city district 2 . In contrast to the other races of the FIA Formula E Championship, the race was held on a Sunday in order to keep traffic obstruction as low as possible.

Lucas di Grassi won the first Zurich E-Prix ahead of Sam Bird and Jérôme D'Ambrosio .

On September 4, 2018, the race planned for June 9, 2019 was canceled because the population should not be expected to have too many major events in one year - in addition to the Züri Fäscht , the tenth anniversary of the Zurich Pride Festival will also take place in 2019 . It was also communicated that if the event were to be held in 2020, the route would have to be relocated to another district where the residents would be less stressed by the construction work. On June 26, 2019, the Zurich City Council rejected the approval for a race on the ETH Zurich campus . Since no alternative route was planned in Zurich, this meant that the race was canceled again.
