Ziarat District is an administrative district in Pakistan in Balochistan Province . The seat of the district administration is the city of Ziarat .

The district has an area of ​​926 km² and according to the 2017 census 160,422 inhabitants. The population density is 173 inhabitants / km².

geography

The district is located in the northeast of the Balochistan Province, which is located in the west of Pakistan. The area of ​​the district consists of hills, mountains and valleys with different ground heights from 1800 to 3488 meters above sea level. One of the largest and oldest juniper forests in the world is located in the district . Some of the juniper trees are over 5000 years old.

climate

The climate in the Ziarat district is usually pleasant in summer and cold to extremely cold in winter. The summer season remains pleasant from May to August. In September it starts to get wintry and it gets extremely cold with heavy snowfall in the months of November to March. The rainy season mainly lasts from January to March in winter and July to August in summer.

The district was created in 1986 from parts of Sibi .

Between 1998 and 2017 the population grew by 3.67% annually. About 2% of the population live in urban areas and about 98% in rural areas. 82,302 men, 78,117 women and 3 transgender people live in 28,999 households, which results in a gender ratio of 105.4 men per 100 women and thus a frequent surplus of men for Pakistan. The main languages ​​in the district is Pashtun . The lingua franca is Urdu .

The literacy of the population over 15 years of age was 65% in 2008/09 and thus well above the average for the Balochistan Province.

economy
