Washuk District is an administrative district in Pakistan in Balochistan Province . The seat of the district administration is the city of Washuk .

The district has an area of ​​29,510 km² and according to the 2017 census 176,206 inhabitants. The population density is 5 inhabitants / km².

geography

The district is located in the west of the Balochistan Province, which is in the west of Pakistan. It extends over 29,510 square kilometers, of which 71,520 hectares are arable land. The rest consists mainly of barren deserts and mountains.

climate

The district falls into the second ecological zone (625 to 1250 meters above sea level), as the district is 700 m above sea level. The climate in Washuk is mostly dry and very hot during the day in summer and mild at night. Sandstorms are common all year round and become so frequently impossible to travel during the months of June - September.

history

The district was created in 2005 from parts of Kharan .

Between 1998 and 2017 the population grew at an annual rate of 2.50%. Around 12% of the population live in urban regions and around 88% in rural regions. 92,031 men and 84,175 women live in 31,540 households, which results in a gender ratio of 109.3 men per 100 women and thus a more frequent male surplus for Pakistan. The main languages ​​spoken are Baluch and Brahui . The lingua franca is Urdu .

The literacy rate in 2014/15 among the population aged 10 and over was 36% (women: 16%, men: 53%).

economy

Most of the workers are employed in agriculture. The district is predominantly rural and there is almost no industry.
