The Lasbela District is an administrative district in Pakistan in the Balochistan Province . The seat of the district administration is the city of Uthal .

The district has an area of ​​12,574 km² and according to the 2017 census 574,292 inhabitants. The population density is 46 inhabitants / km².

The district is located on the southeast of the Balochistan Province, which is in the west of Pakistan and borders the eastern megacity of Karachi .

climate

The weather in Lasbela district is similar to that of Karachi. It is very hot in May and June and it gets cold in December and January. The rainy season is mostly in July and August.

history

Lasbela was a princely state from 1742 to 1955 and remained so during the British era.

Lasbela was separated from Kalat after he had received the status of a district on June 30, 1954.

Demographics

According to the 1998 census, 98.33% of the total population were Muslim, 1.37% Hindus and 0.14% Christian. The main languages ​​are Baluch (65%) and Sindhi (24%). The most important ethnic groups are the Baluch and the Lasis, the latter of whom speak the Lasi dialect of Sindhi.

Between 1998 and 2017 the population grew at an annual rate of 3.24% and therefore very quickly. About 33% of the population live in urban areas and about 67% in rural areas. 299,299 men, 274,985 women and 8 transgender people live in 93,165 households , which results in a gender ratio of 108.8 men per 100 women, which is a common surplus for Pakistan.

The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population aged 10 and over was 42% (women: 31%, men: 52%).
